NaNoWriMo
November is National Novel Writing Month. Celebrate with me by participating in NaNoWriMo - a blitzkrieg style approach to writing a novel. The competition begins on November 1st and the goal is to write 50,000 words by month’s end.
If you’ve ever wanted to write a novel, this is a great opportunity. I think the concept is really interesting. I know I often put off writing for fear that I’m not in just the right mood and that it won’t quite be good enough. Given the voluminous quantity of writing required merely to complete the challenge successfully, such perfectionism can’t possibly be a concern. The result may not be a masterpiece, but at least you’ll have the words down.
The challenge has a great community component. There are local DC forums and DC meet ups (called “write-ins”). There is a kickoff party on Sunday, the 28th at Union Station. I’ve been monitoring the DC forums and it seems there are a lot of other interesting people participating. There are also personal profiles and word count trackers. The idea is to have a bunch of people all in it together to help push you along. I hope some of you will join me.
